Funnily Enough
No matter how serious I try to take myself, no matter how heavy life gets, I must remember that a large percentage of existence is, in fact, hilarious. Jokes. Irony. Satire. Bloopers. Improv. Sarcasm. The list goes on and on. Comedy is as inescapable as death: probably moreso. And thank goodness for that! For how often I remind myself to build my characters naturally, I sometimes forget that a huge part of being 'a person' is knowing how to laugh. (Or knowing how to be the brunt of a cosmic joke.) Life is inarguably tough. I often use humor as a coping mechanism, and there's a very high chance that a few of these characters would, as well. Sometimes, the jokes might be more bitter or sad than funny, but them's the breaks. Of course, I don't want it to seem insincere or staged, but if there's a moment where humor is going to rear it's sometimes confusing head, why should I deny it its glorious purpose? To make someone chuckle or smile... even if it's just the characters. Comedy can always be appreciated at face value, whether there's a deeper meaning or not.
