Plot Holes & Pot Holes

Plot holes are like pot holes: no matter how much you try to avoid them, you're going to drive over one at some point. It's not an 'if', it's a when, and when you do, it's about whether or not you let it pop a tire or flip the vehicle. This is yet another reason why I haven't outlined this story into the ground. I started with a well established premise, but it's flexible enough to bounce and bend if it has to. Now that I've actually hit a small plot hole, I'm more grateful for the looseness of my outline than ever. It's not overly difficult to correct, and I won't need to backtrack and rewrite any large sections. I'm fully expecting this to happen again, and when it does, hopefully it won't be any worse. Even if it is, I'll deal with it with all the awkward aplomb of an unfortunate driver changing a spare tire on the side of the freeway. The feeling is the same: immediately alarming, highly annoying, moderately inconvenient. But in the end, not such a big deal, and I can be grateful that I (and the story!) survived.
