What's In A Name, Really?
I had a name for this character, but I can't remember it. It's lost in some misplaced notebook. The last few pages of a 2023 planner, actually, if I remember correctly. I must not have been sold on it, because I can't remember it to save my life.
No matter. I'll have to think of a new one. This is a good opportunity for me to pause. You see, I'm a bit irritated that the story was put on hold because of this; it's always the silly little details that stop the writing train.
The name of a character seems monumentally important, but perhaps I'm overthinking it. I have established names for most of the others, but this one was conceptualized as an archetype, which means that to some degree, they were conceptualized backwards. (As most characters are.)
Staying true to these new processes that I am establishing for myself, I have faith that the matter will resolve itself. Or rather, the character will name themselves without much input from me. I know that sounds a tad unhinged, and perhaps it is, but if I don't think about it too hard, and I let the character's persona define their own name, I think I'll come to something agreeable sooner than later.
I believe the more we try to force most things, the less likely they are to budge, at least in matters of creativity. The age old "might makes right" subscription does not apply to intangible concepts and apparently, naming characters.
